District Six was established in the late 19th century as a mixed community of freed slaves, merchants, artisans, labourers and immigrants. But with the onset of marginalisation it was declared a white area in 1966 and 60 000 were forcibly removed; their houses flattened by bulldozers.
The District Six Museum brings light to the memories of these experiences and provides a great insight into the life and times of the Apartheid era.
